I hope by now you’ve heard about National Night Out. It is the first Tuesday in August every year. Here in Auburn Hills we make a big ta-do of it because we think it is important for us to stop for one evening and draw attention to the importance of police-community relations. Our job is to make the community safe but we couldn’t do it without you.
National Night Out is an annual event that grew out of an idea by National Association of Town Watch, a non profit crime prevention group. America’s Night Out Against Crime started in 1984 and has grown every year since. Last year the 27th annual involved 37 million people in 15, 110 communities nationwide. Traditionally, people were encouraged to turn their porch lights on that evening to show support for crime prevention efforts across the country.
National Night Out is designed to:
- heighten crime and drug abuse prevention awareness
- generate support for and participation in local crime prevention efforts
- strengthen neighborhood support and police community partnerships
- send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
We have a great team that have been working very hard to bring you another award winning event. Auburn Hills has received awards for the last 7 years for our event from the National Association of Town Watch.
We hope to see you on TUESDAY, AUGUST 2nd here at the City Complex for an evening of family fun & great food.
