Ok, so I admit being an emergency management geek.
I am fascinated with how the authorities are handling Hurricane Sandy as it comes ashore on the east coast. One of the most interesting aspects is this idea of how social media relates to emergency managment. Fairfax County, Virginia has elected to crowd source their emergency management information. The same thing was done during the tsumami in Japan when people were communicating the conditions where they were. We can agree that these are unverified reports but they are still better than nothing at all.
Joplin, Missouri used social media to reunify families and report damage after their tornadoes a year ago. I’ve reblogged a post from idisaster a great blog site on this very topic.
