Fireworks Update

Unmanned, free floating devices that require fire underneath to propel it–illegal because it has an uncontrolled and unpredictable path of flight

City Council will take up the issue of a fireworks ordinance at their meeting tonight.

In addition to limiting the days of use (day of, day before, day after national holidays), the proposed ordinance would also outlaw unmanned, free floating devices (paper lanterns) that have an open flame (already prohibited under the fire code) and minors will be prohibited from ignition, discharge or use of consumer fireworks.

Their action tonight would be to move it to a public hearing at their next meeting where they would take input from interested parties and make a decision about whether to pass it into ordinance.
