It is not a secret

L-Brooks-Patterson-crash-1-jpgI say it all the time:  TRAFFIC TICKETS ARE ABOUT TRAFFIC SAFETY not about revenue.  We are all about making this town safer for people living, working and traveling through.  So we research the top 10 traffic crash locations a couple of times every year and then we determine what the most frequent violations are that cause the crashes.  We figure that if we get out there and write tickets for the violations causing the crashes we will be able to reduce the crashes.   But we won’t need to write the tickets if you just comply voluntarily.  So here they are with the violations in parentheses and the times (listed in military time –on a 24 hr. clock):

  1. Interchange Ramp to Northbound Lapeer Road;   1000-1900 hours; (Unable to Stop).
  2. Baldwin/I 75; 1300-1900 hours; (Speed to Fast, Unable to Stop, Disregard Traffic Control Device).
  3. Lapeer/Harmon; 1400-1800 hours; (Speed to Fast, Disregard Traffic Control Device, Unable to Stop).
  4. Squirrel from University to Cross Creek; 0700-1200 hours; (Speed to Fast, Disregard Traffic Control Device, Unable to Stop).
  5. Walton/Squirrel; 0800-1300 hours; (Speed to Fast, Disregard Traffic Control Device, Unable to Stop).
  6. University/Squirrel; 0700-1100/1600-1900 hours; (Speed to Fast, Disregard Traffic Control Device, Unable to Stop).
  7. Baldwin/GLC; 1300-1900 hours; (Speed to Fast, Unable to Stop).
  8. Opdyke/University; 0700-1100 hours; (Speed to Fast, Disregard Traffic Control Device, Unable to Stop).
  9. Joslyn/GLC; 2100-2300 hours;   (Speed to Fast, Unable to Stop).
  10. Adams/Auburn; 1400-1700 hours; (Speed to Fast, Unable to Stop).

Secondly, here are locations where we’ve heard that violations are occurring which means that we’ll be out there looking for violators.  If you are there, you might just see us there trying to improve the situation.

  1. Norma Group (14-2430); Cut through traffic; Peaks times 0600 hours and 1600 hours.
  2. Auburn/Oakmont (13-22714); Drivers disregarding a school bus at bus stop at 0800 hours.
  3. Walnut (13-13217); Speeding at various times during the times; Peak times are AM rush hour, lunch time, and PM rush hour.
  4. Hamlin (14-7187); Speeding; Peak time is 1300-1800 hours.
  5. Richwood (14-7614); Speeding; Peak times are 0500-0900 hours and 1600-1900 hours.

Don’t forget to wear your seat belt and don’t drink and drive –we are looking for those violations too since we know that serious injury and damage can result.

Traffic safety is very important — so it isn’t a secret where we are working and what we are trying to achieve.  We hope you’ll help us by improving your driving and being mindful of these areas.
