New Policing Careers Start Today

This morning we swore in two new officers:  Emily Frederick and Robert Schurig.  Police careers always begin with the oath of office.  We swear to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this state and our community.  It is always very brief but it is what is required before they can receive a license from the State to be a law enforcement officer.   It is a meaningful moment.  Officer Schurig’s family was able to attend and his mother pinned on his badge.  Officer Fredrick’s family lives further away so they were not able to attend so I pinned on her badge.

They are being hired to replace some of the officers who retired last year.  It is an exciting moment for them–many have had this as their goal since they were children.  But today was only the beginning.  They have about 4 months of on the job training before they will be operating as solo performing police officers.  Lots yet to learn.

We go out of our way to make the first day special.  They’ll remember it all their lives.

Good luck, Emily and Robert.  I hope you have long and successful careers.  We know you’ll add value to the services we provide this community.
